IAEA announces Grossi's trip to Kyiv for high-level meetings

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi will travel to Kiev next week for high-level meetings. This was reported by the agency on Thursday, January 30.
"Director General Rafael Grossi will travel to Ukraine next week to participate in high-level meetings in Kiev," the IAEA said in a statement on the social network X (former Twitter).
It is noted that during the meetings will discuss the IAEA's efforts to prevent a nuclear accident during the conflict.
Earlier, on January 23, Grossi said that the situation with nuclear safety at Zaporizhzhya NPP is not improving, and the IAEA mission is far from complete. He specified that the agency's inspectors at the Zaporizhzhya plant heard frequent explosions outside the facility, which means "a continuing threat to nuclear safety."
The day before, Reuters reported that Grossi was preparing to make visits to Russia and Ukraine in the next few weeks. As the agency noted, the reason for the IAEA director general's visit is the agency's concern over military activity near the ZNPP.
Earlier, on January 17, Grossi said that explosions near ZNPP occur daily. According to the director-general of the organization, these explosions threaten nuclear safety and security of nuclear power plants.
Zaporizhzhya region, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since that time, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
