Despite reports that the level of support for Ukraine among Germans is falling, it still remains high. Denys Denis Denisov, an expert of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestiya on January 30.

Earlier in the day, the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported that more than half of the Bundestag deputies skipped the vote on the allocation of $3 billion to Kiev. According to the media, only 320 out of 733 people showed up for the meeting. For example, not a single deputy from the Alternative for Germany party did not show up at the meeting.

"Many people said that among Germans support for continued aid to Ukraine is declining - yes, but not on such a large scale. Sociological research suggests that the majority of Germans are still in favor of such support. And it is much more than 50%", - commented the political scientist.

He noted that against the background of the upcoming elections in Germany, such situations in the Bundestag are natural - those who are against the financing of Kiev will sabotage the decisions of political opponents.

At the same time, the deputy chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Johann Wadeful, said in a conversation with Russian pranksters that Ukraine should not count on deliveries of German Taurus cruise missiles until May as long as the old government remains in power. According to him, this is due to the fact that the current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is against it.

Prior to that, on 19 January, it was reported that representatives of German political parties criticized the possible provision of financial aid to Ukraine in the amount of €3bn, with some CDU deputies among them speaking out against the allocation of funds to Ukraine.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
