New Ebola case detected in Uganda's capital city
An outbreak of disease caused by the Ebola virus has been confirmed in Uganda. This was reported on January 30 by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Uganda.
"The outbreak of the viral disease Ebolavirus Sudan (SUDV) was recorded in the capital of Uganda, the city of Kampala, according to the data received from three national reference laboratories (specialized medical centers that deal with the analysis of biological materials. - Ed.)," the ministry said on social network X (former Twitter).
Reuters quoted Uganda's health ministry as saying that one of the first patients was a nurse at a hospital in the capital who sought medical help after developing fever-like symptoms. She passed away on Thursday, January 30. An autopsy confirmed the presence of Sudan ebolavirus (SUDV).
It is currently unknown how many people are infected with Ebola.
The ministry has deployed a rapid response team to Mbale town and Islamic Hospital in Matugge town.
Uganda last experienced an outbreak in late 2022. According to the latest figures, the 2022 outbreak has killed 55 of the 143 infected people, among them six health workers.
Ebola hemorrhagic fever is transmitted through contact with infected body fluids and tissues. Symptoms include headache, vomiting blood, muscle aches and bleeding.
