Court sentences Kherson Region resident to eight years in prison for extremism


In Kherson region, the court sentenced a 51-year-old local resident to eight years in prison on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organization, as well as illegal acquisition and storage of explosive devices and ammunition. This was reported on January 30 in the press service of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee (ICS) of Russia in the region.
According to investigators, since 2014 the man participated in the movement of an extremist organization, the activities of which are prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation, promoted its ideas, attracted new members to the movement, publicly called for joining the organization and carried out the instructions of the leaders, aimed "at exacerbating the socio-political situation in the Russian Federation".
In addition, at the place of residence the figure kept an explosive device and ammunition for firearms.
"He was found guilty of committing crimes under part 2 of article 282.2, part. 1. art. 222.1, part 1. art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation and inducement to activity in an extremist organization, illegal acquisition and storage of explosive devices and ammunition)," the agency said.
The man was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment with serving in a penal colony of general regime.
The day before it was reported that the Second Western District Military Court sentenced 18-year-old resident of Kursk Garik Grigoryan (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) to seven years in prison on charges of state treason, preparation for a terrorist act and other crimes.
