Court in DNR sentenced in absentia an AFU mercenary from Lithuania


The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has passed a criminal sentence in absentia on a 57-year-old mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Rimas Armaitis from Lithuania. This was reported by the prosecutor's office of the region on January 30.
It is specified that the figure arrived on the territory of Ukraine in March 2022 and joined the International Legion. During his stay, he underwent military training aimed at mastering the skills of handling combat weapons, as well as studying strategies, tactics and methods of combat. After completing the training, the man participated in combat operations.
"The amount of remuneration received by the mercenary exceeded 2.3 million rubles," - stated in the message of the agency.
The court found the mercenary guilty under part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict") and sentenced him in absentia to 13.5 years in prison. He will serve his sentence in a strict regime penal colony.
On the same day, the Supreme Court of the DNR sentenced in absentia to 14 years in a strict regime colony a citizen of Georgia Georgi, participating in hostilities on the side of the AFU. It is reported that he received a reward of 2.4m rubles for his actions.
