- Estonian residents start buying generators before disconnection from the Russian power grid

Estonian residents are buying electric generators en masse because of the upcoming disconnection of the Estonian energy system from the Russian one, which is scheduled for February this year. This was reported by ERR TV and radio company on January 30.
According to the broadcaster, sales growth has been recorded in online stores, where a wide range of equipment is available.
Also the director of Bauhof's commercial sales and online trading department, Priit Vao, said that sales of generators have increased tenfold. More than 100 units of generators were bought in one day.
In addition, local stores have seen an increase in purchases of long-life food, pet food, hygiene products, and flashlights and batteries.
In November 2024, power system operators in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia officially notified Russia and Belarus to withdraw from the common BRELL power system by February 8, 2025. The European Union (EU) will allocate about €1.2 billion to the project, thereby covering three-quarters of the total costs. Synchronization of the countries' power systems with the continental European Synchronous Area is scheduled for February 9, 2025.
It has been claimed that the project's implementation will ensure the Baltic states' independence and increase the region's energy security.
