Over the past 24 hours, 248 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 26 people were killed and 284 injured. 27 of the dead were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Thursday, January 30, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 97 accidents, 58 of which occurred at crosswalks and 39 outside their zone of action, nine pedestrians were killed, another 92 were injured of varying severity. Among the victims were 19 child pedestrians under the age of 16, 11 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway at a crosswalk. There were 31 accidents involving minors, as a result of which 38 young road users were injured, including 17 passengers. No children were killed.

There were 13 accidents involving buses on Russian roads, in which there were no fatalities, but 22 road users were injured. Four accidents involving buses were caused by violations of traffic rules committed by their drivers.

The collision of a city shuttle bus with a shunting train was caused by the bus driver, who committed a gross violation of traffic rules, at a railroad crossing in the Naro-Fominsk urban district of the Moscow region. In the evening, the driver of a bus, traveling without passengers in the cabin, drove onto an unregulated railroad crossing near the village of Novaya Olkhovka, where he collided with a diesel locomotive carrying several empty freight cars. The driver of the shunting locomotive applied emergency braking, but due to insufficient distance the collision could not be avoided. As a result of the accident there were no casualties and no derailment of rolling stock. The movement of suburban and passenger trains was not changed.

The traffic police reminded motorists of the importance of compliance with the rules of passing railway crossings, as this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver's focus and maximum attention. Thus, in the traffic rules there is a direct prohibition to exit to the railroad crossing outside the crossing. The maneuver is impossible when the barrier is closed or closing, or at a prohibitive signal of a traffic light or crossing duty officer.

Stopping or parking a vehicle at a railroad crossing is also strictly prohibited, as it creates a real threat of collision with a train. If this happens in emergency conditions, for example, when a car breaks down, the driver must immediately drop people out of the vehicle, remove them to a safe distance and take measures to clear the crossing - tow or push the car off the rails. In addition, the driver moving through a railroad crossing must be extremely careful in the dark, as well as in adverse weather conditions and limited visibility.

"Analysis of accidents at railroad crossings shows that such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, try to pass in front of a closely running train. Trying to win a few seconds of travel time, they end up endangering not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway personnel, passengers of electric trains and long-distance trains", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of road safety propaganda and prevention of child traffic injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

On January 28, the head of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry, Lieutenant General of Police Mikhail Chernikov, said that the number of people killed in traffic accidents last year had decreased by 0.9%. The head of the Russian State Automobile Inspectorate noted that, according to preliminary data, the number of car accidents decreased by 0.7%, while the number of people injured in them - by 1.5%.
