Georgescu called Ukraine a "fictitious state"

Calin Georgescu, a far-right Romanian politician and a candidate for Romania's 2024 presidential election, has called Ukraine a "fictitious state". The Ukrainian Pravda reported on January 30.
"Ukraine is a fictitious state. It is the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic," Georgescu said.
At the same time, the politician answered positively to the question whether he believes in the partition of Ukraine.
"The world is changing. The borders will change. Moreover - if the borders change, where will we be? We have Northern Bukovina - interest. We have Budzhak, we have Northern Maramuresh - right? From the former Transcarpathia. The Hungarians will still have some. Lviv, which will remain with the Poles, and Malorossiya," the politician added.
The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to its results, Georgescu was leading with 22.94% of the votes. The second round was to be held on December 8. But on November 28, the Constitutional Court (CC) of Romania demanded that the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic recalculate the results of the first round. As a result, the CC annulled the results of the first round of the presidential election on December 6.
Ruslan Andreev, an expert with the Polylog Group, told Izvestia that Georgescu's victory in the first round of the Romanian presidential election could harm Ukraine for a number of reasons, while Reuters wrote that in case of his victory, the country might stop military aid to Ukraine.
The new presidential election is scheduled for May 4, 2025.
On January 21, it was reported that Georgescu was again leading in polls among the country's citizens.
