Mikhail Kovalchuk, visited the All-Russian Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) on January 30.

"The main direction is the metal printing direction. By far the most important component, the development of obtaining such metal powders, compositions for printing. The institute is developing these printing technologies," Shoigu was told during his visit to the institute.

They added that at the moment more than 35 materials for application in printing technologies have been developed. It is noted that the production capacity of the pilot site is about 190 tons, and the annual demand is 45-40 tons. For the production of powders for printing are used electrodes, production complex with a capacity of 400 tons, as well as layouts of alloys on different bases.

In addition, the researcher told Shoigu that one of the new directions of production is polymer material in the form of powders for "desktop 3D printing". The main task of this direction is to develop a structural material to make elements of drones.

Earlier, in November 2024, Kovalchuk noted that the Russian Federation surpasses other countries in terms of resource reserves and is in every sense a self-sufficient country. He noted that Russia should be strong so that no one would have the idea to encroach on its wealth and well-being.
