Abkhazia's embassy in Russia pointed to the republic's choice to be with Russia

The people of Abkhazia choose to be together with Russia - the states are united by language, culture, history and ruble. This was pointed out by advisor of the Embassy of Abkhazia in the Russian Federation Kan Tania on January 30 during a roundtable discussion of the Expert Institute for Social Research (EISR) on the topic: "Election of the President of Abkhazia: what path will the republic choose?".

"Abkhazia and Abkhazians made their historical choice to be geopolitically together with Russia. Let's not dive into ancient history, let's take at least the process of the collapse of the Soviet Union. <...> At that time Abkhazia still as an autonomy made its geopolitical choice by voting against secession from the Soviet Union. This is a very important moment, from this period Abkhazia once again confirmed that despite any crises Abkhazians and Russia are on the same side of the geopolitical barricades," - said the diplomat.

According to the speaker, an overwhelming number of Abkhazians have a second Russian citizenship. He also emphasized that Abkhazia unconditionally supported the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to conduct a special operation to protect Donbass, as these values protect Abkhazians as well.

"We - Abkhazia, Russia - we are with you in the same social, cultural and economic space. We speak the same language with you, we do not need an interpreter, this is worth a lot in fact. We read the same literature, our children study Russian classics in schools, we watch the same movies, read the same books. We are in the ruble zone, after all," Tania noted.

He emphasized that it turned out this way because Abkhazians made their historical choice. And now at the elections of the head of state, the diplomat believes, a candidate who will oppose Russia will not be able to win.

Also during the round table VTsIOM Director General Valery Fyodorov said that 91% of the surveyed Abkhazians have a positive or rather positive attitude towards Russia. The survey was conducted by telephone and 1634 residents of the republic over 18 years of age took part in it.
