The task of a school is to bring up a child who is comprehensively developed and able to think. This was stated by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky on January 30.

He said that new history textbooks often contain diametric assessments of events or contradictory memories of contemporaries about the events.

According to Medinsky, this is necessary so that a discussion can be arranged during the lesson, during which schoolchildren will justify and defend their point of view.

"We are not bringing up wooden soldiers. We want there to be a well-rounded, educated, interested, able to argue and, most importantly, able to think child. A schoolchild who can think, who wants to get to the truth! This is our ideal!" - said the Russian presidential aide in an interview with RBC.

Earlier, on January 28, Russian Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov said that the subject "Basics of Spiritual and Moral Culture of the Peoples of Russia" (ODNKR) will return to schools from September 1, 2026.

On December 27, 2024, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin announced plans to consider in 2025 the issue of excessive workload of schoolchildren, who on average spend 8-10 hours a day studying. Among the main reasons for consideration he singled out complicated homework and its volume, as well as overloaded schedules, a large number of subjects studied and extracurricular activities.
