Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Russia agree to strengthen partnership

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Kazakh counterpart Olzhas Bektenov during bilateral talks agreed to continue joint work of the countries in all areas and strengthen strategic partnership. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Kazakh Cabinet of Ministers in Telegram on January 30.

Mishustin and Bektenov considered plans to expand trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Astana and Moscow. They also paid attention to the tasks aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of agriculture, energy and transportation, the press service said.

"Kazakhstan is our strategic partner and ally. Our relations are based on the principles of friendship, good-neighborliness, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests. <...> The task of the governments is to ensure the clear fulfillment of those agreements that were reached by our leaders," the department quoted the Russian prime minister as saying.

Chairman of the Government of Kazakhstan, in turn, stated the readiness of the country to closely interact and develop cooperation with the Russian side in all areas.

Prior to that, on January 3, Kazakh President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said that he did not rule out the construction of a second and third power plant, emphasizing the need for nuclear power plants for the republic. He noted that the nuclear industry will give a powerful impetus to the development of the country's economy, which is currently in energy deficit.

Earlier, on November 27, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tokayev in Kazakhstan discussed further development of Russian-Kazakh relations and signed a joint statement on deepening strategic partnership in the new global order.

On the same day, Tokayev called the strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan a model of strong and unbreakable friendship. He noted that he maintains regular contacts with Putin, "characterized by frankness, business and mutual respect".
