The "cashier" of a currency exchange office who stole 13.9 million rubles was detained in Moscow

A 19-year-old foreigner, who pretended to be a cashier of a currency exchange office and stole 13.9 million rubles from a client, was detained in Moscow. This was reported by the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk on January 30.

According to her, an unknown person offered the migrant to earn some money, offering to play the role of a currency exchange cashier, and then run away with the client's money. To do this, the attacker rented an office, which he converted into an exchange office, and placed an advertisement on the Internet about a favorable rate.

A resident of Nizhny Novgorod responded to the ad. In the exchange office he was shown an allegedly ready to issue the amount in euros - it was a fake. The man handed his money to the "cashier", he, under the pretext of the need to recalculate them, went to a neighboring room and escaped from the office through the emergency exit.

"Police officers detained the suspect at the capital's airport while trying to leave Russian Federation. According to the detainee, he handed the stolen money to an accomplice, leaving himself a part as a reward", - wrote Volk in her Telegram-channel.

A criminal case under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed by an organized group on a large scale") has been opened. A measure of restraint in the form of detention has been chosen for the defendant, specified the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, on January 13, a source of "Izvestia" reported that a resident of Cheboksary gave her savings and took a loan to help the "Korean actor". The fraudster, introducing himself in a Telegram chat room as a Korean actor, took possession of the sum of 277 thousand rubles under the pretext of moving to the victim.
