In the State Duma proposed to inform the families of owners about the possible loss of the plot

State Duma Deputy Speaker Boris Chernyshov has sent an appeal to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, in which he proposes to inform relatives of owners of abandoned plots of land about their possible seizure.

"In connection with the amendments to the Land Code of the Russian Federation coming into force on March 1, 2025, simplifying the procedure for seizure of abandoned land plots, I ask you to consider the possibility of introducing a mechanism for informing relatives of owners of such lands about possible seizure," RIA Novosti quotes the contents of the January 30 document.

Thus, according to Chernyshov, this measure will prevent unfair cases when land will be seized because the owner is unable to take care of it, and relatives failed to do something about it due to their lack of awareness.

According to the deputy's proposal, local governments will be able to sue for the loss of unused land without prior coordination with the prosecutor's office. The author of the initiative believes that cases when the owner is an elderly person, unable to take care of the plot, but planning to pass it on by inheritance, are not uncommon. Chernyshov explained that the introduction of such a mechanism would be a fair step that would allow families to retain their property if they are willing to take care of the land.

Earlier, on September 12, 2024, the head of Rosreestr Oleg Skufinsky said that dacha plots could be seized under the law if the land remained abandoned for three years after purchase, despite receiving a warning. The purpose of the relevant law is to encourage land owners to use the land for its intended purpose.

Earlier, on May 22, it was reported that the government commission for bill activity approved a bill developed by Rosreestr that obliges owners of land plots, including gardeners and horticulturalists, to start using them within three years.
