US President Donald Trump has described the plane crash that occurred near Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) near Washington DC as horrific.

"I have been fully briefed on the terrible crash that just occurred at Reagan National Airport. God bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work done by our first responders," White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt quoted Trump's statement on social network X (formerly Twitter) as saying.

The president emphasized that he is monitoring the situation and also promised to provide more details as they emerge.

Earlier in the day, a plane crashed into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in the US. The airport authority said all takeoffs and landings have been suspended. A search and rescue operation was launched on the Potomac River after the plane crashed.

Later in the press service of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States specified that a passenger plane Bombardier CRJ700 and a military helicopter Blackhawk collided in the air near the airport. According to NBC News, four people were rescued at the scene of the plane crash. The search continues. It is noted that on board the fallen American Airlines plane were 60 passengers and four crew members. The Russian Embassy in the United States is finding out whether there are any injured Russian citizens as a result of the collision of the plane with a military helicopter.
