German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on January 29 called the United States the liberators of Germany from Nazism and thanked Americans for helping the country become a democracy.

"We are very happy that the United States liberated our country and helped us to become a democracy again," the Esslinger Zeitung quoted Scholz as saying.

He specified that because of this fact, he is angry about the support of American entrepreneur and politician Ilon Musk for right-wing politicians in Germany.

Earlier in the day Scholz 2 in an interview with the American TV channel CNN criticized this statement of Musk, noting that Germany has always borne and will continue to bear responsibility for the actions of the German Nazis, and this applies both to citizens whose grandparents lived in this country in the past, and migrants. At the same time, Scholz expressed gratitude to the United States for having saved Germany from Nazism.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that if German Chancellor Olaf Scholz began to condemn all those who support right-wing forces in Europe, such as American billionaire and entrepreneur Ilon Musk, the head of the German government should stop helping the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine.

On January 25, Musk, speaking at a campaign event of the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party, said that the leadership of the FRG is practicing totalitarianism, limiting the freedom of speech of citizens. The billionaire said that Germans should be proud of their nation and stop feeling guilty about the country's past.
