Rosstat spent 9 billion on 400 thousand unnecessary tablets

Over 10 years, Rosstat purchased 392,000 tablets worth 9.2 billion rubles for research purposes - only 18,000 of them were used in 2024. Most of them are stored in factory packages in warehouses. This is evidence of inefficient use of state property, according to the January report of the Accounts Chamber (available from Izvestia).
In response to the auditors' criticism, the press service of Rosstat said that about 60,000 tablets on the Aurora OS are being transferred to other authorities, including new regions, Kursk and Belgorod oblasts.
Most of the tablets are outdated due to the latest technical developments, the SP noted. Some of them are unsuitable for further research because they have a small amount of memory and the Android operating system version 4.0, which is not supported by most programs since 2017. In addition, long storage of the equipment without action could lead to malfunctions.
According to the Accounts Chamber, the reason for this situation is the insufficiently systematic approach of Rosstat to the procurement of equipment.
At the same time, earlier the service planned to purchase another 102 thousand devices for almost 7 billion to prepare for the All-Russian agricultural census in 2027, the auditors note. However, Rosstat itself assured that the agency is no longer planning to buy new tablets.
As a result, the auditors recommended to assess the possibility of further write-off or use of tablets, as well as seize unclaimed property from territorial statistical services.
