In the next five years, 11 million jobs are to be replaced in Russia. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Labor Dmitry Platygin on January 29.

According to him, the replacement staffing capacity is the sum of new jobs and jobs that will be released when employees reach retirement age.

"Of course, the main source of replacement staffing is graduates. In total, about 11 million jobs will need to be replaced over five years," Platygin said during a meeting of the working group on secondary vocational education and training of professional staff chaired by State Duma Deputy Speaker Victoria Abramchenko. The broadcast was conducted on the website of the lower house of parliament.

He specified that the manufacturing industry is in the first place in terms of the volume of substitute demand. Here the authorities plan to place about 1.6 million jobs.

Earlier in the day, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has done a lot, but it lacks "energy to solve the problems with labor resources in various industries. At the same time, she added that the agency should pay attention to the lawmaking process.

Before that, on December 2, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with young scientists in Novo-Ogaryovo that despite the low unemployment rate, the country has a problem of labor shortage. He called the solution to this problem the introduction of new technologies, including in the field of artificial intelligence.
