Belarus and Russia discussed the construction of a joint service center for the repair of air defense equipment, reports the State Military-Industrial Committee (Goskomvoyenprom) of Belarus on January 29.

The issue was raised at a meeting in the town of Borisov, Minsk Region, between Goskomvoenprom enterprises and a delegation from Russia, with the participation of representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

"During the meeting they discussed current issues of the project implementation on the creation on the basis of JSC "2566 plant for repair of radio-electronic weapons" of a service center for repair of air defense equipment," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the committee.

The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Director General of JSC "Concern VKO "Almaz-Antey" for foreign economic activity Vyacheslav Dzirkaln. The Belarusian side was represented by JSC "2566 Plant for Repair of Radio-Electronic Weapons" (ZRREV), where the meeting was held, and JSC "Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant".

Earlier, January 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has obligations to ensure the security of Belarus and has no intention to abandon them in the light of reports that Belarusian extremists abroad are planning to seize the border areas of the republic. Russia will not leave Belarus in trouble in this way, he confirmed.

In December 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that the defense of Belarus is an important component of Russia's security, and it was included in the updated nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation. In particular, it takes into account the emergence of new weapons that could become a military threat in the future. These include, for example, missile defense systems.

The head of state approved the updated nuclear doctrine of Russia on November 19. It introduces for the first time the notion of a potential adversary against whom nuclear deterrence is conducted.
