The rallies of entrepreneurs in Berlin show that the German government needs to solve the causes of the financial crisis in the country, not only to support business with money. Evgenia Pimenova, a historian and political scientist and Germanist, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestia on January 29.

Earlier that day in Germany, several hundred entrepreneurs gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, opposing the economic policy of the country's authorities and the European Union. Common demands of the protesters include reducing bureaucratic requirements, tax burdens, and energy costs.

Commenting on this, Pimenova noted that the German economy is indeed in a difficult state. According to her, people who came out to the rally seek to convey their problems to those politicians who will soon - after the February elections - form a new German government. At the Brandenburg Gate, she said, the protesters are mainly representatives of small, family and medium-sized businesses. It is objectively difficult for people to do business in the conditions of economic recession, the expert emphasized.

However, she said, mass protest is part of German political culture. Germany has a traditionally strong trade union movement, and, for example, strikes and strikes of public transportation drivers that end up blocking all traffic in the city for several days are not new.

"Therefore, no revolutionary changes will be brought about by this protest. However, it is another loud reminder to the future cabinet of ministers that problems need to be solved immediately. And their solution lies not only and not so much in financial support for business, but in eliminating the causes of the crisis," summarized the Germanist.

In her opinion, it is about normalization of relations with Russia and adequate solution of the Ukrainian problem, "literally sucking German resources for the last years". The only question is whether the new government will be ready for a real solution to all these problems, Pimenova concluded.

Before that, on December 28, former member of the European Parliament (EP), French politician Hervé Juvene told Izvestia that one of the reasons for the economic crisis in Germany is the cessation of cheap oil and gas supplies from Russia. According to the politician, there is no peace in Europe, and "the prospect of prosperity is melting away." The economic problems of the European Union will grow, Juvene suggests.

Earlier, on December 16, the Bloomberg agency reported that the German economy is stagnating and approaching the point of no return. According to analysts, the country is experiencing an energy crisis, and each household loses about €2.5 thousand a year.
