A mole, which may indicate the development of skin cancer, can be identified by five signs. This was reported on January 29 by dermatologist Ekaterina Kandinskaya of the DocMed clinic.

The specialist noted that self-examination of the skin, as well as the ABCDE rule can help.

"A - asymmetry: one half of the mole or birthmark does not correspond to the other. B - border: the edges are uneven, jagged, jagged or blurred. C - color: the color is not the same everywhere and may include various shades of brown or black and sometimes spots of pink, red, white or blue. D stands for diameter: the spot is larger than 6 mm across <...>, although melanomas can sometimes be smaller. E stands for 'evolution': the mole changes size, shape or color," she shared in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.

The specialist emphasized that some people should pay more time to the condition of moles. According to her, this includes those who have a large number of moles, as well as the presence of atypical and congenital spots. In addition, this group of individuals includes patients with a family history of melanoma and other skin cancers, the elderly, those with fair skin, or those exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Kandinsky clarified that melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops when melanocytes grow uncontrollably. According to the doctor, it is important to know that this oncology can develop on any area of the skin. At the same time, she specified that in women, the development, most often, occurs on the legs, and in men - in the area of the chest and back. Visually, melanoma can also look different.

Another sign that warns of the development of skin cancer, the expert called a non-healing wound on the skin or mucous membranes, redness beyond the border of the mole, as well as the occurrence of itching, pain or changes in the surface of the formation.

She emphasized that some melanomas do not comply with these rules and urged to contact medical institutions for any changes or new spots on the skin that differ from standard moles.

Earlier, on January 14, SM-Klinika oncologist Rasul Akhmaev shared with Izvestia that stomach cancer is considered one of the most aggressive cancers. He noted that this severe disease can behave unpredictably, despite good prognoses for treatment at early stages.
