The proposal to ban the popular song "Sigma Boy" sung by two Russian schoolgirls in the European Parliament (EP) is a manifestation of anti-Russian propaganda. This was stated to "Izvestia" on January 29 by the deputy from the party "Alternative for Germany" ("AdG") Eugene Schmidt.

"I hear that the speech in it (in the song "Sigma Boy". - Ed.) is about a girl who, apparently, fell in love for the first time in her life. <...> I think this is just anti-Russian propaganda. Anything goes, even songs like this," Schmidt said while listening to the song on the street.

He shared that he had first heard the song the day before when he saw the news that the European Parliament had proposed banning the song because Russia was allegedly using it to influence Europe. Schmidt said he saw no reason to think that the song could be used for propaganda against Europe.

Earlier, on January 26, German politician and member of the European Parliament from the Volta Europa party Nela Riehl called for "Sigma Boy" to be banned because the song allegedly helps spread pro-Russian and patriarchal views.

The father of singer Betsy (real name - Svetlana Chertischeva) Mikhail Chertischev noted on the same day that the resonance around the composition only contributes to its successful promotion. For example, his parents were forbidden to listen to the British band The Beatles when they were young, but Chertischev's father still bought their records on the black market.

Before that, on January 16, the song "Sigma Boy" took the seventh line of the international music chart Billboard. The composition entered the ranking of pop music and dance songs.
