In New York held a ceremony of swearing in the dog Simon of the Basset Hound breed, who won the election for honorary mayor-dog of New York. The New York Post reported that.
"I, like Simon, am grateful for the opportunity to use this platform for the next two years to promote finding owners for animals in New York City," said Sophie Vershbow, the owner of the winning dog, at a ceremony held on January 26.
He added that he will organize fundraisers for organizations that already place animals with families. Vershbow dressed the dog up in a collar and tie.
During Simon's swearing-in, city public advocate Jumaane Williams urged the new honorary mayor to fulfill his duties in the spirit of universal love for dogs. The advocate then shook the basset hound's paw and placed a cylinder hat on his head.
The election, which took place in early November, was not without scandals with vote buying: it was done by cryptocurrency enthusiasts who decided to support the Pomeranian Spitz Bertram. They even created the cryptocurrency BERT. Against this background, the owners of some dogs withdrew their candidacy. In the end, the spitz lost out to Simon. Bertram was appointed honorary vice-mayor of New York, but he passed away shortly after the election, so his place was taken by a dachshund named Pepper, who was sworn in along with a basset hound.
