Powerful storm "Erminia" caused flooding in northwestern France and created a risk of avalanches in the Alps, reports Bloomberg agency on January 28.

The agency calls this flooding in French Brittany the strongest in the last two decades. It covered several departments at once. Local authorities declared a red level of weather warning for these areas. Residents were urged to stay away from rivers, low-lying areas and bridges.

"Red warnings were also announced along the coast of northern Spain and Portugal, where the storm could trigger waves up to 14 meters high," the material said.

In most of the French Alps, warnings about the danger of avalanches are also in force.

Earlier, on November 23, 2024, in Ireland 34 thousand houses and 11 thousand people were left without electricity due to widespread flooding and storm "Burt". It was specified that in the areas of Connemara and West Mayo snowfall and ice caused significant damage.
