The Sovfed approved a law on fines for selling liquefied gas cans to children


The law on fines of up to Br2 million for the sale of potentially dangerous household goods with liquefied gas to children, such as lighters and cans for their refueling, was approved by the Federation Council at a meeting on January 29.
"The fine for citizens will be from 150,000 to 300,000 rubles, for officials - from 500,000 to 700,000 rubles, for legal entities - from 1.5 million to 2 million rubles," said Natalia Kuvshinova, a member of the SF Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, her words quoted by TASS.
She explained that the new law is adopted to implement the existing one, which prohibits the sale of goods of such category to children, and the government has drawn up a precise list of such items. Changes will be made to Article 14.53 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation ("Non-compliance with restrictions and (or) violation of prohibitions in the sphere of trade in tobacco products").
The law on fines for the sale of gas-containing products to children will come into force on September 1, 2025, administrative cases on it will be considered by Rospotrebnadzor.
Earlier, on January 21, the State Duma decided to adopt the bill on fines of up to 2 million rubles for the sale of vape products to children in the third reading. The draft law introduces a fine of Br200-300 thousand for the sale of tobacco, vapes, electronic cigarettes and hookahs to children for ordinary citizens, up to Br500-700 thousand for officials and up to Br1.5-2 million for legal entities. In case of repeated violation, criminal liability is envisaged.
Deputy of the Bryansk Regional Duma, chairman of the All-Russian public movement "Russia Orthodox" Mikhail Ivanov noted in a conversation with "Izvestia" on December 18 that these measures will make sellers more responsible and help reduce nicotine consumption among young people. The deputy emphasized that this is a very acute problem.
