Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on 29 January that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has done a lot, but it lacks the energy to solve labor problems in various sectors.

She pointed out that the Ministry has worked hard to put social payments in order, improve accessibility and convenience for citizens.

"But at the same time, in my opinion, what is lacking in the Ministry? <...> Energy, faster concrete action, decision-making. We all know that the situation in the labor market is grave, the shortage of labor resources in almost all sectors, primarily in industry," - said the chairman of the Council of the Russian Federation at the plenary session on the results of the government hour with the participation of the head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov. The broadcast was carried out on the website of the Council of the Russian Federation.

She questioned the Ministry about what had been done by the agency to correct the situation in three years. At the same time, she added that the department needs to pay attention to the lawmaking process.

"All the things you have talked about today, it should have been done yesterday, the day before yesterday, a year ago. Even the proposals you're talking about, 'we'll bring it to the spring session, we'll pass it,' but what to do now? Of course, we need all the programs, we need them to have a long-term character, the policy was defined, but we need to take measures more quickly, more decisively," - concluded the Speaker.

Earlier, on December 2, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with young scientists in Novo-Ogaryovo that despite the low unemployment rate, there is a problem of lack of workers in the country. He called its solution the introduction of new technologies, including in the field of artificial intelligence.

Back in late October, the head of state pointed out that the unemployment rate in Russia is falling lower and lower, and every quarter the historical minimum for this indicator is updated. He attributed this to the government policy of recent years along with the efforts of the business community and labor unions. This level is also minimal in comparison with other leading countries of the world, the head of state pointed out.
