Russian Foreign Ministry says ties with Thailand on fighting disinformation


Representatives of the Russian Federation and Thailand have discussed issues of countering the spread of disinformation within the framework of a videoconference of inter-midway consultations between the parties. This was reported on January 29 in a publication on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It is specified that this issue was given increased attention.
The Russian Federation and Thailand also expressed interest in expanding ties and exchanges between the media.
Earlier, on January 23, members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Russia's alleged distortion of facts in support of the special operation in Ukraine. The parliamentarians called on the EU states to "better coordinate efforts to firmly counter Russian disinformation".
The chairman of the Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, called the EU restrictions on the Russian mass media unfair and short-sighted. According to him, the West is creating blockade conditions for journalism in Russia, noting that it is Western media outlets that are engaged in propaganda and distortion of information.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 13 that Russian journalists are entrusted with the most important mission of countering lies and disinformation, which Russia's opponents use as an information weapon against its people.
