The National Hockey League (NHL) has named the date of the game, in which Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin can break Wayne Gretzky's sniper record for goals in the NHL. This match will take place on April 15, 2025. This was reported on January 28 on the portal of the league NHL Network.

"Alexander Ovechkin's rate of scored pucks per game this season is 0.65, which allows him to break Wayne Gretzky's record in the match against the New York Islanders on April 15", - stated in the publication.

Ovechkin's gap from Wayne Gretzky's record is currently 19 goals.

Earlier, on January 21, Ovechkin said that he has a hard time scoring goals because he has to play against very strong defenders. The forward added that hockey is a team sport, you can't act alone.
