German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on January 28 that he was critical of what American entrepreneur Ilon Musk said about Germany's history.

"Germany bears and will continue to bear responsibility for what Germans have done in the past. This applies both to people who have nothing to do with Germany's past because they are migrants and to those whose parents and grandparents lived in Germany for centuries," he said in an interview with CNN.

According to the chancellor, Germany has every reason to take responsibility for a bad past. Scholz also expressed gratitude to the Americans for the liberation of the FRG.

"We are very happy that the United States liberated our country and helped us to become a democracy again," he emphasized.

Earlier, on January 25, Musk said at a campaign event of the Alternative for Germany party that the FRG government was taking a totalitarian approach to restricting freedom of speech in the country. The entrepreneur urged Germans to be proud of their nation and stop feeling guilty about the past.

The next day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized the words of the entrepreneur. According to him, Musk's statement sounded "too familiar and ominous".
