28 people have been detained in the case of a fire in the Grand Kartal hotel in the ski resort of the Turkish town of Bolu. This was announced by the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a meeting of the Turkish Parliament on January 29.

"The number of detainees has risen to 28. 19 people have been arrested, seven people are under judicial control," he said. His words were quoted by local TV channel Haber7.

Erdogan added that an investigation into the disaster has been organized, it will be handled by a team of eight specialists.

A large-scale fire occurred in a hotel in the Turkish resort of Bolu on January 21. As a result, 79 people died and another 51 were injured. The Russian Embassy in Turkey said that there was no information about the Russians who were at the resort. There were almost 240 guests in the building at the time of the incident. January 22 was declared a day of mourning in the country.

The Hurriyet newspaper reported that Erdogan cried during the ceremony of farewell to the victims at the ski resort. It was specified that one of them was a deputy with whom the president knew personally.

The owner of the Grand Kartal hotel blamed the fire on the staff. According to the Sabah newspaper, the fire may have been caused by a mistake of the staff. They allowed hot oil to get on the grill, after which the fire broke out, and then tried to extinguish the flames with water.
