Decrease in mortality from tuberculosis was recorded in the Moscow region

In the Moscow Region there has been a decrease in the mortality rate from tuberculosis. According to the results of 2024, this indicator decreased by 7.1%. The mortality rate amounted to 1.3 per 100 thousand people.
Internet edition "Podmoskovye Segodnya" with reference to the regional Ministry of Health writes that the improvement of the situation was the result of work aimed at early detection and treatment of tuberculosis.
According to Sergei Smerdin, chief physician of the regional clinical TB dispensary, measures are being taken in the region, including those aimed at increasing the availability of diagnostics and prevention.
The dispensary includes 12 branches and 28 dispensary departments and tuberculosis rooms. In addition, patients with this diagnosis are accepted in six hospitals.
Earlier, WHO in its report said that tuberculosis has replaced COVID-19 and in 2023 again became the leading cause of death from infectious diseases. "In 2023, TB was diagnosed in about 8.2 million new patients, the highest rate since 1995, when WHO began global monitoring of TB incidence. As a result, tuberculosis has once again become the leading infectious cause of death, displacing COVID-19 from this position," the publication said.
