- An economist predicted growth in the volume of the cyber sports games market in Russia

In 2028, the volume of the market of cyber sports games in Russia can grow almost twice and reach $70-80 million, according to Mikhail Khachaturyan, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Strategic and Innovative Development of the Finance University. He told Izvestia on January 29. In his opinion, along with this, the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market is expected to grow. In turn, Ippon development director Kristina Vishnevetskaya noted the importance of a properly selected UPS.
"According to various statistical sources, the volume of the cybersports gaming market in Russia in 2024 amounted to $43.7 million . Despite the sanctions restrictions, expressed in the departure from Russia of practical all major game manufacturers, the growth, compared to 2022, is almost twofold. In this context, it is reasonable to assume that the positive dynamics for the next three years will continue, and by 2028 the volume of the cyber sports games market may reach $70-80 million," Khachaturyan specified.
Speaking about the global market of cyber sports games, the expert drew attention to the fact that its volume in 2024, according to various estimates, amounted to $2.4-2.6 billion, while in 2023 it was estimated at $1.6-2 billion. The growth trend will continue, and by 2028 the volume of the global market of cyber sports games may reach $3.7-4.2 billion, the economist suggested.
According to him, the number of cyber sports competitions will grow and one of the fastest growing markets along with cyber sports will be the uninterruptible power supply market.
"This will be driven by the increasing demand for reliable and stable power supply in the context of a constant increase in digital workloads and technological solutions," he said.
In turn, Vishnevetskaya specified that losses in case of a sudden power outage during a cybersport competition are estimated in millions of dollars: this includes the cost of winning the tournament, the cost of gaming machines, and reputational damage.
"The power of gaming computers is significantly higher than normal automated workstations, the average power supply is up to 600W, and on serious streaming gaming machines it is much higher. At the same time, the cost of some gaming computers can reach several million rubles and, if at the time of a gaming tournament the lights go out or there is a change in the input voltage, a properly selected UPS will allow not only to successfully complete the tournament, but also to take back the invested money to all concerned spectators and participants," she concluded.
Earlier, on December 10, 2024, it was reported that a third of Russians (28.9%) are fond of cybersports. Among them, the share of men is 61.9%. This is stated in the results of the research of the analytical center of the Association for the development of interactive advertising.
