More than 80% of Greenlanders do not want the island to become part of the United States. This was reported by Bloomberg agency on January 28, citing a survey by Verian.

The poll was conducted for four days, from January 22 to 26, based on online interviews with 497 adult residents of the island.

According to the poll, 85% of the population does not want to be part of the United States. About 6% said they were not against joining the United States, while 9% were still undecided.

"The poll also showed that 45% of Greenlanders see Trump's interest in Greenland as a threat. Only about 8% would take a US passport if they had to make an instant choice between Danish and American citizenship," the piece added.

On January 26, US President Donald Trump, answering questions from journalists in Las Vegas, expressed confidence that the United States would get Greenland. The day before, Trump insisted on acquiring Greenland during a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Trump was reportedly aggressive and conflicted.

Earlier, on January 15, a USA Today poll showed that 53% of US residents opposed the idea of US President Donald Trump to annex Greenland to the country.

On December 22, 2024, Trump said that for the US to own and control Greenland is an absolute necessity. He had previously expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down. In the coming year, Trump was also indicated to Trump that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the US.
