More than half of US citizens disapprove of former President Joe Biden 's decision to pardon family members before leaving office. This follows from a poll by US-based Rasmussen Reports, which was released on January 28.

"The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online poll shows that 42% of likely U.S. voters approve of the pardons Biden issued to several members of his family shortly before he left office," the publication said.

According to the survey, of those voters, 20% strongly approve of Biden's decision.

At the same time, 52% of respondents expressed a position against the pardon, among which 38% of citizens strongly disapproved of the act of the former US President.

Earlier, on January 20, Biden preemptively pardoned a number of members of his family, calling the investigations against them "unfounded and politically motivated". According to the former White House chief of staff, his family was subjected to attacks and threats that were aimed at causing him pain. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the situation with the pre-emptive pardon a self-defamatory act.

On December 2, 2024, Biden decided to pardon his son in honor of Thanksgiving. Reacting to this, Hunter Biden stated that he intended to dedicate his life to helping people with addictions. In September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine felony counts of failing to pay taxes, and in June, he pleaded guilty to three felony counts of weapons possession.
