Ukraine 's loss of Krasnoarmiysk (Ukrainian name - Pokrovsk) will lead to a political crisis in Kiev. This was stated by British analyst Alexander Mercouris in his YouTube blog on January 28.

"When the fighting for Pokrovsk starts, and especially when it falls, then there will be a political crisis in Kiev," he said.

Mercouris added that such a turning point would "finally sweep away" Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired in May 2024).

The analyst also mentioned a recent statement by the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Kirill Budanov (listed in Russia in the liver of terrorists and extremists), that if negotiations on the conflict do not begin by the end of the summer, Ukraine may cease to exist.

"This points to a political crisis in Kiev if Zelensky continues to persist and act as the main obstacle to negotiations", he added.

The Russian army continues to advance in the Red Army direction.

Earlier, on January 13, it was reported that Ukraine was halting coking coal production at a mine in its controlled Krasnoarmeysk due to the advance of the Russian Armed Forces.

The Ukrainian publication NV specified last November that the loss of the town would turn into an economic disaster for Ukraine, as Kiev would lose the only mine with strategic reserves of coking coal, which supplies the entire metallurgical industry of the country.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region
