Ukraine should not count on deliveries of German Taurus cruise missiles until May as long as the old government remains in power. German MP and deputy chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Johann Wadeful said this in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vovan (Volodymyr Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Aleksey Stolyarov) on 29 January.

The conversation was conducted on behalf of Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president's office.

"We should not expect to receive the Taurus missile before May. But the new government will come to power, I believe, no later than May, maybe a little earlier. Our position has been all along and will be in favor of supporting you," Wadeful said.

According to him, this is due to the fact that the current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposes the delivery of cruise missiles to Ukraine. The CDU deputy chairman noted that Scholz only "creates an image of a peace chancellor," while the likely future head will be more active in helping Kiev.

In addition, Wadeful said that the candidate for chancellor of Germany, CDU leader Friedrich Merz plans to set conditions for Russia by threatening new arms deliveries to Ukraine.

"Russia will always be an enemy for us and a threat to our European security," the German politician told Yermak.

He revealed that in this regard, if the CDU party leads the ruling coalition if it wins the parliamentary elections, its goal would be to return to universal conscription in the country.

At the same time, Wadeful noted that a German military contingent on Ukrainian territory is impossible, as in this case Germany would lose the support of the population. Most Germans are in favor of financial and military aid to Ukraine, but would oppose sending German soldiers there, he added.

"But there is a lot more that can be done within the current framework. We did criticize Scholz for being so reluctant, so hesitant to support you from the German side. We supported those shipments. He should have sent tanks to Ukraine earlier. It took too long," Wadeful said.

Earlier, on January 19, it was reported that representatives of German political parties criticized the possible provision of financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of € 3 billion. At the same time, against the allocation of funds to the Ukrainian side, including deputies of the CDU spoke out.

Before that, on 23 December 2024, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the faction of the ruling Servant of the People party, Ruslan Horbenko, demanded that the German chancellor hand over the technology for the production of Taurus missiles and a license for them to Ukraine.

The next day, the Russian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary envoy to Germany, Sergey Nechayev, in his turn, described the talk about the supply of German missiles to Ukraine as depressing. According to him, after the Ukrainian conflict, relations between Germany and Russia will be restored, but "on a different basis, taking into account historical experience."

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
