Astronomer admits possible asteroid collision with Earth in 2032

Asteroid 2024 YR4 discovered in December last year may collide with the Earth in 2032. This was reported on January 29 by astronomer, scientific director of the observatory Ka-Dar and astrofarm "Astroverta" Stanislav Korotky.
"It is observed for 33 days, it turned out that there is a probability of its collision with our planet on December 22, 2032. At the moment, the probability of collision with Earth is estimated by different structures from 0.5 to six percent," he told "RIA Novosti".
The astronomer emphasized that the uncertainty is due to the small period of observation of the asteroid and a large time interval for which the forecast is made.
According to him, if the asteroid falls to Earth, it is most likely that it will land in the area of central Africa or the Atlantic Ocean.
Earlier, on December 3, 2024, an asteroid fell near Yakutia. On the same day, Viktor Grokhovsky, head of the Extra terra consortium laboratory at Ural Federal University (UFU), said that the asteroid's fall was the 11th case in history when scientists determined the phenomenon in advance and calculated the trajectory.
Later, Igor Koltovsky, Associate Professor of the Department of Radiophysics and Electronic Systems at the Physical-Technical Institute (PTI) of the North-Eastern Federal University, said that the fall of asteroid C0WEPC5 posed no danger to nature and the population of the region.
