North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for strengthening the state's nuclear shield due to the fear of conflicts amid the unstable global situation. The Korean Central Telegraphic Agency(KCTAK) reported on January 29.

"The DPRK security situation, in which a long-term confrontation with the world's most unstable adversaries is inevitable, makes it necessary for us, who are responsible not only for today but also for the future of this country, to strategically prepare not only for the existing various threats but also for new and future security risks, to constantly strengthen the nuclear shield that can reliably guarantee the sovereignty, interests and development of the state," the publication said.

It is specified that the DPRK leader noted the achievements in the production of DPRK nuclear workers, who, according to him, are making "especially important successes" in new state projects.

Kim Jong-un also called the coming year of 2025 a key year in the issue of strengthening and increasing nuclear capabilities. He said it is necessary to complete all projects in the pipeline this year in order to move "to a new stage."

Earlier, on January 17, the DPRK Foreign Ministry said that the military exercises of the US and its allies on the Korean Peninsula lead to the risk of armed conflict and the destruction of regional stability. It is stressed that the state reserves the right to self-defense "with greater intensity."

On December 19 last year, the DPRK Foreign Ministry said that the actions of the US and allies are a serious threat to global peace and security. It also emphasized that the released statement of the G7 countries on DPRK-Russia cooperation does not reflect reality, which Pyongyang protested.

Also, the head of the press office of the DPRK Defense Ministry said on November 23, 2024, that the US actions on the Korean Peninsula could lead to war with the DPRK. According to him, Washington needs to immediately stop "provocative actions" to avoid an armed clash.

Before that, on November 22, 2024, Kim Jong-un, chairman of the State Council of the DPRK, said that the Korean Peninsula has never faced such a great risk of nuclear conflict. He said the US is expanding the military alliance system of nuclear weapons sharing to contain Pyongyang's power.
