The Security Council remains the core of the collective security mechanism, but its reform should not cater only to the interests of a small number of countries, Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui said.

"<...> it should reflect the international political reality and trends of future development, and embody the historical trends of the formation of a multipolar world, the democratization of international relations and the rise of the Global South. The only true direction for Security Council reform is to truly increase the representation and voice of developing countries. This is the common opinion of the overwhelming majority of member states, and any reforms deviating from this direction will be unacceptable," the diplomat emphasized.

At the same time, the UNSC reform should take into account the key interests of different countries, which requires full interaction, respect for their opinions and concerns of all parties.

"The UN Charter grants permanent members of the Security Council the right of veto, which reflects the special responsibility on their shoulders to maintain international peace and security. China, as a permanent member of the Security Council, has always taken a cautious and responsible approach to exercising this right," he continued.
