Russia and China are fighting together against the sanctions pressure that Western countries are trying to exert on them. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters after the opening of the Chinese New Year festival on January 28.

"We say in different ways <...>: back to back, sometimes shoulder to shoulder, but we are really countering that destructive thing that we have now in world affairs, related to sanctions pressure, related to the attempts of one center of power to dominate over all the others," Zakharova said.

She emphasized that representatives of Moscow and Beijing constantly talk about friendship and daily prove it by deeds. Russia and China believe that independent and sovereign states have the same right to develop their potential and choose their own course, as well as to partner with those countries that they themselves deem necessary, and this is enshrined in international law. Zakharova noted that Moscow and Beijing realize such interaction quite successfully.

Earlier, on January 21, Chinese President Xi Jinping noted during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin that in 2025, Moscow and Beijing are ready to take their bilateral relations to a new height and confront external challenges and uncertainty, while maintaining stress resistance and stability.

Putin stressed during the final press conference on December 19, 2024 that the interaction between Russia and China has reached unprecedented heights in recent decades. The head of state linked this primarily to the fact that the countries are developing relations on the basis of mutual trust.

Prior to that, on December 17, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted that three meetings between Putin and Xi Jinping in 2024 had contributed to the deepening of cooperation between the countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry said on December 13 that Moscow intends to strengthen dialog with Beijing, including on the issue of coordinating missile aspects of strategic stability.
