Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou has called a publication in The Economist magazine about the serious problems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) on the front line a bad sign for Kiev. He made the corresponding statement on January 28 in the social network X (former Twitter).

"It is very bad for Ukraine when even the neoconservative The Economist is forced to admit that the front line is collapsing," he wrote.

According to the magazine's piece, the Ukrainian army "no longer has tactics other than plugging holes." This was shared with the publication by a retired commander of the AFU with the call sign Kupol.

Before that, on January 23, the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired on May 20, 2024) Andriy Yermak reported about the difficult and tense situation on the front for the AFU. According to him, the difficulty lies in the insufficient equipment of brigades.

Earlier, on December 5, 2024, former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are on the verge of collapse and are falling apart. Ukrainian military personnel, he said, have begun surrendering in unprecedented numbers.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
