Macron announced the relocation of the "Mona Lisa" to a separate room in the Louvre

French President Emmanuel Macron said during a visit to the Louvre that Leonardo da Vinci's painting "Mona Lisa" will be placed in a separate hall of the museum. This was reported by the Associated Press agency on Tuesday, January 28.
The painting will be moved to a separate apartment. For access to it will need to purchase a separate ticket.
During the visit, the issue of restoration of the museum was also decided, because the last major overhaul was carried out in the 1980s, now it does not meet modern standards. The reconstruction will include a new entrance near the Seine, which will be opened by 2031, and the creation of underground rooms.
Earlier, on January 23, Louvre director Laurence de Carre sent a note to French Culture Minister Rachida Dati, which stated that the Louvre needs a major overhaul due to the severe deterioration of the building, which jeopardizes some of the museum's key exhibits. It was also specified that in summer the museum turns into a "hothouse" - it is extremely unpleasant to be in it because of the stifling heat. Moreover, de Carre drew attention to the fact that the Louvre does not have enough toilets and places for rest.
