The temperature drop in Moscow is expected to be accompanied by light snow in February, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, told Izvestia on January 28.

According to him, record warm weather is predicted until the end of the current month, but the beginning of February will bring quasi-winter temperatures to the middle zone. Night temperatures will gradually drop, starting in St. Petersburg on the 1st, in Moscow on February 2-3, to -4...-9, while daytime temperatures will drop to -2...-5 degrees below zero.

"We expect that the temperature drop will still be accompanied by a little snow. Heavy snow, heavy snowfalls are not expected, but the snow will cover the ground. We will not see bare ground anymore," Shuvalov specified.

In addition, the forecaster explained that the warm January was influenced by the stability of atmospheric processes since December.

"This is a constant, unceasing export of warm air from the Atlantic, sometimes the Mediterranean and very rarely from the north of Africa. This stability, being in the summer time, it would most likely lead to drought intense on the territory of the Russian Plain, on the European part of our country. And now it leads to the fact that the positive temperature anomalies in the middle zone reach 5-6 degrees, and in the East, in the Urals and Siberia 8-10 degrees of deviation from the monthly climatic norm", - said the expert.

Earlier, on January 27, leading specialist of the information agency Meteonovosti Tatyana Pozdnyakova noted in a conversation with Izvestia that record warm weather is predicted in Moscow and Moscow region during this week. It is expected that the warmest in the capital will be January 30, when the night temperature will be somewhere within +2... +4, and +4 during the day, while in the center it may rise to +6.
