The head of the State Automobile Inspectorate reported a decrease in road accident fatalities

The number of people killed in road accidents last year decreased by 0.9%. This was announced on January 28 at a meeting to summarize the results of interagency cooperation in the field of improving road safety in 2024 by the head of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General of Police Mikhail Chernikov.

The head of the Russian State Automobile Inspectorate noted that according to preliminary data, the number of car accidents decreased by 0.7%, and the number of people injured in them by 1.5%. According to him, the main causes of deaths on the roads are driving into oncoming traffic lanes (24.8%) and collisions with pedestrians (23%).

"It is on them that we need to concentrate joint efforts, take into account in the planning of measures and their activities, take an active part in their prevention and elimination," - emphasized Chernikov.

He noted that today it is necessary to use all possible technical means that will minimize the probability of error of both driver and pedestrian. The head of the State Automobile Inspectorate proposed to work out approaches to the arrangement of crosswalks together with the Ministry of Transport, as well as to strengthen engineering measures, to use elements of lane separation and experimental means of traffic organization.

Chernikov called improving the level of children's knowledge an important aspect of improving road safety. In his opinion, here it is necessary to use all available forms and methods of work with children, special attention should be paid to the preventive impact on adult road users. He also appreciated the positive effect of broadcasting road safety videos in medical institutions, suggesting that together with the Ministry of Health to return to this practice.

Earlier in the day, the Russian State Automobile Inspectorate denied the information about the mass cancellation of registration of vehicles imported under parallel imports due to failure to pay the utilization fee in full. The agency recalled that the list of grounds for the termination of registration of vehicles is established by law. Changing the status of the electronic passport issued to the vehicle in connection with its revocation does not apply to such grounds, emphasized the Russian State Automobile Inspectorate.
