As the last month of winter approaches, schoolchildren face the important task of focusing on their studies, improving their grades and preparing for exams. However, many distractions, such as gadgets and social networks, can interfere with productive work. On January 29, Victoria Podsukhina, a teacher and head of regional teaching at MAXIMUM Education, shared with Izvestia tips on how to develop persistence and increase concentration.

According to the expert, perseverance is the ability to concentrate on a task for a certain period of time, including the performance of routine and monotonous activities. Such tasks, unlike those that bring instant gratification, do not promote dopamine production, so it is important for a child to understand why they are necessary. For example, doing homework can boost academic performance and help them get a good grade for the year.

"New habits need to be linked to other enjoyable activities, to come up with a 'reward'. For example, for successful completion of homework, you can allow yourself a half-hour rest with your favorite book. You should not try to introduce several habits at the same time, which can cause stress. This applies to all habits - both study habits and any other habits, say, regular early rising", - said the expert.

She also emphasized that concentration requires practice, and the environment plays an important role in this. Order in the workplace helps avoid distractions, and gadgets, especially social media, are some of the biggest irritants.

"Social media are kidnappers of our time, they cause a release of dopamine, which encourages the body to return to the source of pleasure instead of working hard," explains the educator.

In order to avoid temptations, she says, students should use timers or apps that help them set time limits for completing tasks. It is better to start with short intervals, for example, 15 minutes, during which it is important to fully concentrate on the task, turning off notifications on the phone. To develop concentration, the expert also recommends collecting puzzles, chess, calligraphy and other hobbies that help train diligence.

"Another typical problem is putting things off for later. Such behavior negatively affects productivity. It is necessary to perform tasks in the time allotted for them and with a set frequency. This is how you develop the habit of doing them regularly, so you need to pull yourself together and do what you have planned. Do not forget about the reward: to celebrate their achievements is necessary to develop motivation, "- concluded Podsukhina.

Earlier, on November 25, psychologist Marina Dokuchaeva shared with Izvestia recommendations that can help cope with anxiety. The specialist gave basic advice on preserving mental health. According to the expert, first of all, you should check your regime.
