Denmark gives Nord Stream operator permission to mothball the pipeline

The Ministry of Energy of Denmark has issued a permit to Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Nord Stream, to work on the gas pipeline. This was reported on January 28 on the website of the agency.
"The Danish Energy Agency issued Nord Stream 2 AG a permit for a number of works at the site of the gas pipeline "Nord Stream - 2" in the Baltic Sea", - stated in the message.
The workers are tasked with preserving the pipeline by installing plugs at each of the open pipe ends to prevent further gas leaks and the inflow of oxygenated seawater.
Nord Stream 2 AG plans to carry out the work in the second or third quarter of this year.
Earlier, on January 20, Bundestag deputy from Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice party, Sevim Dagdelen, called for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to be reopened and for Russian oil to be imported. She pointed out that otherwise Germany will continue to suffer economic decline as "self-destructive sanctions" against Russia tighten.
Leaks at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Two powerful underwater explosions were recorded on the pipelines. Traces of explosives were found at the accident site. Russia is seeking an international investigation into the terrorist attacks. In February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson that the CIA was responsible for the explosions.
