In Colorado, a spectator was killed at a track and field competition by a hammer thrown by a high school athlete. This was reported by the American radio station Colorado Public Radio (CPR) on January 27, citing sources.

"Throwing hammers consist of a metal ball attached to the handle with a steel wire. At the high school level, the ball weighs 12 pounds (5.5 kg. - Ed.) and typically travels through the air at speeds ranging from [88.5 to 107 km/h] depending on the skill of the athlete," the publication explained.

It is noted that the hammer, which hit the man, overcame the protective fences installed in the hall, then rushed into the crowd.

According to the publication, despite the fact that the 57-year-old father of one of the competitors was given medical assistance, he died at the scene.

A spokesman for the school where the incident occurred told the publication that an investigation into the man's death was ongoing. The interlocutor of the radio station refused to provide details about the height of the barriers.

Earlier, on January 23, it was reported that in the gym located in the center of Moscow on Shchipok Street, a 47-year-old man died during boxing training.
