The richest people in the world lost $108 billion after the sale of shares in the technology sector, associated with the Chinese model of artificial intelligence (AI) DeepSeek. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 28.
"The world's 500 richest people, led by co-founder of Nvidia Corp. Jensen Huang, lost a total of $108 billion on Monday," the publication noted.
It is specified that the entrepreneurs, whose fortunes are connected with the field of AI, suffered the greatest losses. For example, Huang's income decreased by $20.1 billion - by 20%, and co-founder of Oracle Corp. Larry Ellison suffered a loss of $22.6 billion - 12% of his fortune.
"Titans of the technology sector as a group lost $94 billion in wealth - about 85% of the total drop in the Bloomberg index," the agency emphasizes.
The day before, US President Donald Trump said that the release of the DeepSeek model by the Chinese company should be a wake-up call for the US industry.
On the same day, the Financial Times reported that the shares of the US company Nvidia fell by 16.8% amid the growing popularity of DeepSeek. It is specified that due to the success of Chinese AI, the shares of S&P 500 fell by 1.5%, Nasdaq Composite - by 3%, losing almost 612.5 points, and Broadcom - by more than 17%.
