US President Donald Trump plans to resume oil and gas production in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the state of Alaska. He said this on January 27 during his speech before the faction of the ruling Republican Party of the House of Representatives of Congress at the White House Head Golf Club in Miami.

"And we're going to do it very quickly. Now, I think I'm going to do it by executive order, because they didn't run it through Congress," - quotes his words TASS.

It is noted that this decision will allow to supply all of Asia. According to Trump, this is the largest field, "potentially the largest in the world, bigger than Saudi Arabia."

Earlier, on January 14, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump will sign some decrees aimed at supporting oil and gas industries after his inauguration. For example, he will begin lifting restrictions on offshore drilling and federal lands that were imposed by current US President Joe Biden.

On January 12, future US Vice President James David Vance said that Trump, once he officially takes office, will have to inherit the economic disaster that will be left behind by current US leader Joe Biden.

Prior to that, on January 8, it was reported that the Alaska state authorities sued the administration of the current US president over limited oil drilling rights in the coastal zone of the United States. The Biden administration calls the lack of restrictions a violation of the congressional directive to allow oil and gas development in a part of the federal Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

On November 16, 2024, Trump nominated Liberty Energy oil company head Chris Wright for Secretary of Energy. The incoming energy secretary is likely to support Trump's plan to maximize oil and gas production and find ways to increase energy production, demand for which is rising for the first time in decades.

In April 2024, it was reported that the Biden administration was reducing oil and gas drilling and production in Alaska. Republican senators from Alaska and several other states held a press conference on April 18 to criticize the decision.
