- The Russian Armed Forces destroyed up to 100 AFU fighters and several vehicles in the NEO zone
Msta-B guns and BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) of the South group of troops have destroyed up to 100 militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and several combat vehicles in the Kurakhov area of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 28.
The ministry noted that BM-21 "Grad" calculations of the motorized rifle regiment worked on the outskirts of the Dachnoye settlement in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). The artillerymen received coordinates from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators, after which they launched a massive strike with 122-millimeter rockets on the target.
"There was a rotation, closer to dusk it was starting. They had a rotation, we were told the target, we covered almost all of Dachnoye, worked off one package, immediately one correction," said the commander of the control platoon of the rocket battery with the call sign Nebo.
In addition, the Msta-B gun crews struck temporary deployment points and positions at AFU strongholds, thus supporting the actions of the assault units.
Earlier, on January 26, servicemen of the Vostok group of forces hit the AFU strongholds in Velyka Novoselka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). It is specified that the heavy flamethrower systems hit the positions of Ukrainian formations with 220-millimeter thermobaric shells, burning out their shelters, firing points and observation posts.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
